A two-day consultative workshop on the development of the School Health and Nutrition (SHN) Gardens Package, including training modules, manuals, booklets, and awareness materials, was held on February 9–10, 2026, in Abbottabad under the chairmanship of the Director Nutrition, Health Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa..

The workshop brought together representatives from the Health Department, Elementary & Secondary Education Department, Directorate of Curriculum and Teacher Education (DCTE), Agriculture Department, academia, and development partners to review and refine the SHN Package for institutionalization in schools across the province. The participants reviewed the training modules, health screening manual, nutrition education materials, and guidelines for establishing school-based nutrition gardens. Technical discussions focused on integrating health and nutrition screening, age-appropriate nutrition education, climate-smart agriculture practices, behaviour change communication, monitoring mechanisms, and sustainability measures within the school environment.

The workshop aimed to strengthen the SHN Gardens initiative as a comprehensive school-based intervention promoting child health, nutrition, learning outcomes, and sustainable food systems. The consultations resulted in valuable technical inputs for finalizing the package and aligning the training materials with DCTE standards for formal approval and adoption. The initiative reflects the commitment of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa towards addressing child malnutrition through coordinated, multisectoral approaches and creating healthier school environments.
