Consultative Workshop on Multi Sectoral National Nutrition Action Plan (MS-NNAP)
After the introduction, Coordinator SUN Unit welcomed the participants and explained the objective of the consultation. He elaborated that, In pursuance of the National consultations, it was requested by the UNICEF, to carry out the provincial consultations on MS-NNAP to review, vet and align all the activities with the provincial government policies for implementation. International Consultant Mr. Shiva and Ms. Silvia joined the consultation virtually.
Dr. Khawaja Masuood Ahmed, National Coordinator – Nutrition & National Fortification Alliance, Ministry of National Health Services also participated virtually and explained the process & progress made so far. He elaborated that this process has been started back in 2021 upon the recommendation of Pakistan National Nutrition Coordination Council and it was directed by the then Prime Minister to prepare MS-NNAP with costing.
Ms. Silvia presented the main steps, Objective of the Provincial Consultation and structure & content of Multisectoral National Nutrition Action Plan (MS NNAP). Following are the main steps towards finalization of MS-NNAP:
- Inception phase, desk review and preparation (drafting of outline plan)
- Stakeholder consultation (national, provincial)
- Drafting the MS N-NAP
- Preparing Provincial Road Maps, SO matrices, provincial priorities and targets
- Preparation and completion of costing exercise (costing tools, costing data)
- Finalizing MSNNAP, provincial road maps, costing
Dr. Zahra, Consultant MSNNAP thanked and appreciated the support of SUN Unit during her visit to Peshawar for meeting with all relevant stakeholders. She further thanked all the relevant departments who helped her by providing required information. For taking inputs from the forum, participants were divided into four groups i.e Health, Wash, Education and Food Security. The groups were led by one of the group members under the supervision of Dr. Zahra and worked on Sectoral strategic objectives (SSO) and targets, Verification of strategic framework, thematic areas and action areas. They were supposed to fill data gaps as much as possible, identify responsibilities and timelines to obtain the required data.
After detail discussions and group work it was pointed out that costing and target identification will need some base line data which was not available at the time of group work with the departments representatives and it was decided to take these groupwork sheet back to the offices and share the complete sheets with SUN Unit for onward submission to the consultant.
